Absolutely not. Your workshop experience will be tailored to your skill set, and that includes complete beginners. If you do have prior pottery experience we can take your piece to the next level with fresh ideas and new techniques to try.

I will be demonstrating pinch pot, coil building, and slab building techniques. It is your choice how you would like to construct your piece. I will also show you how to incorporate textures, carving, and sculptural elements to your form.

Our workshop is long enough that you will be able to make several different mugs (and mistakes) and experiment with surface design, shape, size, etc. However, at the end of the workshop, we will choose only one mug for glazing and finishing.

The workshop will be held at my home in Pine Mountain Club, CA. The specific address will be sent out after your reservation has been made.

Unfortunately at this time it is not. The workshop will be held in my home, and it is up one flight of stairs. I hope to offer an ADA compliant workshop in the future, perhaps held at another venue, so please let me know if this interests you. Thank you for your understanding.

Secondly, when I get a lot of people interested in a workshop I will often add another date, so definitely let me know if this is the case.

The materials we will be using are nontoxic, but messy. Clay does wash out very well without any staining, but do wear something you don’t mind getting messy in, or even better, bring an apron if you have one.

A lot of problems with cracking and breaking in the kiln stem from mistakes made during the actual making process. I will absolutely be checking everyone’s pieces for anything that could go wrong further down the line. That being said, I cannot guarantee nothing will happen in the kiln, nor can I offer any refunds for pots that are damaged in the kiln due to the inherent risk involved in firing clay. But we’ll do our best to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Pottery is a slow process, and each piece requires two kiln firings. That being said, a lot depends on the weather and how fast your piece dries. Generally speaking, you can expect your work to be done and ready to be picked up within 2-3 weeks of the workshop. I will keep everyone up to date on their work during this wait time.
